The best way to deliver your information to the world requires the best content management. We explore WordPress as one of the tools you can use. We stick to Open Source solutions that run on Linux utilizing MySQL.
Former British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli is generally given credit for saying “There are three kinds of lies; lies, damned lies, and statistics” and then there is this Lifehacker poll- which doesn’t show the results- but says most of the geeks reading the popular blog think WordPress rocks.
They mixed 2 ides in this post- one on the best blog backend- and one on plug-ins- but we’ll forgive them (we just didn’t make the same mistake).
Lifehacker, the Productivity and Software Guide
In our recent web publishing poll, the overwhelming majority of Lifehacker’s blogger readers said that WordPress was the only way to get their words out to the world (so much so that the poll actually seems to have broken).
If you jump to the poll- the comments are helpful for learning too-
but, it’s our experience right now- that WordPress is the best for getting you to the top of Google- and that makes all the difference right now. If you are interested in having us come give a seminar to your group or organization- please feel free to contact us.
Found this article on 8 plug-ins for WordPress that can help you extend the functionality of your site.
One of the hardest things for us to keep up on is plug-ins, and how to separate the wheat from the chaff- some plug-ins can cause more problems than they solve (we found adhesive broke a google map plug-in for instance) and how some don’t work with certain themes (K2 doesn’t work with the google mapping plug-in either).
Another area where there seems to be a ton of options is Stats packages- right now we’re trying 3 different ones out.
So- here is a link to 8 invaluable WordPress plugins- and a brief quote-
WordPress in its default, out-of-the-box form can provide a good platform for your website, with a little tinkering you can increase the functionality of your site massively. And what’s the easiest way of tinkering? Plugins! Special files that you simply slot-in to your WordPress installation to get new features. Here are 8 plugins that I consider absolutely invaluable…
We’d love to hear what your favorite plugins are- so feel free to comment- we’ve got ours listed on our tools page.
We’re not the only ones helping people discover web2.0 and the power of using a blog backend to get your message out- Debbie Weil is pushing her book “The Corporate Blogging Book” as a way to help CEO’s reach their markets.
The first chapter is available for download- and has the top 20 reasons why you should be a corporate blogger.
While we haven’t had a chance to read the book- we looked at the first chapter- and it pretty much says a lot of what we’ve been saying- except- we believe that RSS and Content Management Systems are the future of all websites- and that WordPress is the bomb (note- Debbie uses WordPress for her site).
She doesn’t seem to mention the power WordPress has for Google placement- which is another reason to use a blog to manage your site, but if you’d sign up for one of our seminars- you’d see that in action.
If you must insist on buying her book- here’s a link.
