Having problems posting often enough? Always on the go when you see something that you want to share? Have a cell phone? Utterz might be the answer.

Although you’ve always had the ability to post via e-mail- without some serious pluginage, you would have a hard time adding cell phone multi-media to a post. Enter Utterz. Just remember, if you are posting (utterz) of audio or video- remember to add text to make your post searchable- or you’ll just be uttering to yourself and your subscribers.

There is a lot of buzz about Twitter as the dawn of instant mobjournalism- instant “Twitterquakes” when something relevant happens to a large group of people who are connected. An earthquake or terrorist attack would instantly fill the twitter-ether with reports.

You don’t have to use Utterz as a social media tool- just a way to post- but, the options are out there.

Besides all the other great reasons to use WordPress as a Content Management System- here’s yet another: You won’t have to worry about getting sued for not being accessible to the blind. Because WordPress adheres to W3C standards- and uses clean CSS, if your theme is done correctly- your site will meet all ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements- something that Target is learning the expensive way:

Judge Allows Class action Lawsuit over Target web site

NEW YORK (Reuters) – A federal judge in California has allowed a class-action lawsuit to proceed against Target Corp brought by plaintiffs claiming the discount retailer’s Web site is inaccessible to the blind.

The ruling allows blind individuals, who say that many other retailers have designed their Web sites to be accessible through special software that vocalizes online content, to join collectively in the lawsuit.

The plaintiffs contend that the company does not allow them full and equal access to Target stores because they cannot obtain online product and sales information.

The decision, made public on Tuesday by Judge Marilyn Patel of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, also rejected Target’s motion for summary judgment in the case.

“This is a tremendous step forward for blind people throughout the country who for too long have been denied equal access to the Internet economy,” Marc Maurer, president of the National Federation for the Blind, said in a statement following Tuesday’s ruling.

The federation, which has more than 50,000 members, says that the Web sites of many other retailers, including Target’s larger rival, Wal-Mart Stores Inc, have been made accessible to blind shoppers who use screen reading software to access the Internet.

If you want to business with the Federal Government- they also require your site to be ADA compliant. If you don’t know how a blind person uses the Web- I highly recommend watching one- and learning how screen reader software works. Also, if your site works for blind people, it also has a better chance at working with mobile devices as well.

Youtube is definitely the 1000 pound gorilla in hosting online video, but there are other options. The main reason to go with other options is video quality. When YouTube recompresses your video, sometimes it can go to fuzz. This should improve now it’s all H.264 instead of Flash video, but, in the meantime- consider some of these options- all allow you to embed your video in a blog.

The main decision you have to make is how “findable” do you want your video to be? ALmost everyone looking for video will tend to go to the best known sites. YouTube has the biggest audience, and if you have something viral- you want it there (although it probably will end up there if it’s truly destined for greatness).

If you just want others to be able to link to it- any site will do.

The last issue is how you embed it in your site. We use a plugin called WPVideo to embed social media site video. There are other plugins out there- you can always trust Lorelle to write about a subject like video embedding plugins in depth- and of course she has: Video, Music, Podcasts, Audio, and Multi-media WordPress plugins.

We’ve also tried uploading our video to our server- and then watching the bandwidth suck out of our server, we’re still scratching our head why we ever went this route (other than some of our video was put up before YouTube existed).
